All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 19, 1939 Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites Held For Hiram Lacy Evans Sunday, January 31st Funeral services were held for Hiram Evans, who died in a Shreveport hospital after a long illness on Saturday, December 31, 1938, at the Sardis Baptist Church with interment at the Sardis Cemetery on Sunday, January 1. Edmonds Funeral Home was in charge. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. I. J. Keyes and W. D. Sherwood. Rev. Caraway also spoke some kind words about the departed. Mr. Evans was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish. He was born July 24, 1885 and was 55 years, 5 months, and 7 days of age at the time of his death. On October 15, 1921 he was married to Miss Isabelle Rice. The deceased was a very active member of the Sardis Baptist Church, being secretary and treasurer of the Brotherhood of that church. He was also treasurer of the Carpenters and Joiners, local 1813 of which he was a member. Acting as pallbearers were Henry Fox, J. A. Clark, H. L. Dickerson, Ivy Keyes, Walter Silman, and Josh Keyes. Besides his wife, he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. J. S. Bunch, Humble, Texas; M. A. Evans, Effie, La.; Horace Evans, Harrisonburg; Joe Shelton and John Shelton, half brothers of the Sardis Community, Mrs. Martha Drewett, a half sister of Montgomery, and a host of other relatives and friends.
