All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 19, 1967 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Joe Emerson, Druggist, Dies Here Jan. 14 Funeral services for Joe Emerson, 62, who died at his residence in Winnfield early Saturday, January 14, 1967, after a long illness, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Methodist church with Rev. W. R. Gage officiating, assisted by the Rev. Richard Walton. Burial, under direction of Southern Funeral Home was in Garden of Memories Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. A native of Magnolia, Ark., Mr. Emerson had moved to Bienville Parish at an early age, but had lived in Winnfield since 1925, where he and his brother, the late John Emerson, had owned and operated a drug store together until 1951 at which time he established his own drug store on Court Street. At the time of his death, he had served the people of this area a total of 42 years as a pharmacist. He was a graduate of the School of Pharmacy at Macon, Georgia, and a member of the First Methodist Church of Winnfield. He was also a Shriner, a 32nd Mason and a Knights Templar. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Byrd Nelson Emerson, Winnfield; two sons, Sidney Thomas Emerson, a student at Rice University, and Joe Emerson, Jr., of Loraine, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. R. A. Moon of Puerto Rico; three sisters, Mrs. Guy Crawford of Winnfield and Mrs. Ernest Boone and Mrs. Roland Ingram, both of Birmingham, Alabama; one brother, Dr. A. J. Emerson of Monroe; seven grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
