All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: February 10, 1950 Winnfield News-American Mrs. Ferguson, Life Long Winn Native, Is Buried Monday Prominent Atlanta Woman Dies Saturday After Long Illness Funeral services were held at the Atlanta Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Monday, February 6, for Mrs. Rebecca Ferguson, 92, of Atlanta, who died at 7 p.m. Saturday following a long illness. Rites were conducted by the Rev. Grafton Shaw, the Rev. J. C. Russeau, pastor of the church, the Rev. C. M. Robinson of Winnfield, and the Rev. James Smith, pastor of the Atlanta Baptist Church, and interment was in the Atlanta Cemetery. Active pallbearers, all grandsons of the deceased, included B. D. Ferguson, Prentice Ferguson, C. G. Neal, Alvin Neal, T. E. Ferguson, and A. B. Collier. The balance of Mrs. Ferguson's grandchildren were honorary pallbearers. The deceased, a lifelong resident of Winn Parish, was born in the Jerusalem Community. She was well known throughout the parish and probably was the oldest native living in the parish at the time of her death. She is survived by four sons, C. H. Ferguson and E. G. Ferguson of Atlanta, J. L. Ferguson of Winnfield, and Cassius C. Ferguson of Crowley; two daughters, Mrs. M. F. Collier and Mrs. Nettie Neal of Atlanta; 22 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Out of town visitors for the funeral included B. D. Ferguson and Billy Ferguson of Houston, Texas; A. D. Kyle and family of Stamps, Ark.; Lee Waldron, Oil City; Mr. and Mrs. Willie Robinson of Shreveport; Minnie Baldwin, state president of the National League of District Postmasters, and sister of Bernice; Mrs. Laverna Ramsey, secretary-treasurer of the league, and Miss Maries of Pleasant Hill; Melvin Gresham and family of Jonesboro; A. J. Collier and family of Crowville; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Neal of Shreveport; Mrs. Carrie Kelly of Pineville; Sam B. Hunt of Monroe; Harold Collier, Natchitoches; Wright Collier of Campti; Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Corbett, Gilbert; L. O. Ferguson and family of Alexandria; Cecil Shaw and family of Clarks; Mr. and Mrs. Newell Gauthier of Cottonport, La.; Perry Jennings, Montgomery; Johnny Stroud and family of Lake Charles; Lonnie Dean of Montgomery, and many people from Winnfield and other parts of Winn Parish.
