Ferrell, Sr., Rites Held Monday At Baptist Church Long Time Resident, Railroad Man Dies Sunday At 67 Funeral services for Thomas Alfred Ferrell, Sr., 67, who passed away at his home here Sunday, were conducted at the First Baptist Church at 4 p.m., Monday, with the Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Mr. Ferrell was born in Amite County, Miss., on Sept. 12, 1878, and was married in 1898 to Susie C. Bales, also of Amite County. He came to Winnfield from Stamps, Ark., in 1920 as an employee of the L & A Railroad, and later was connected with the T & G Railroad shops until he retired in November, 1941. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, T. A. Ferrell, Jr. and L. M. Ferrell, both members of the Army Air Force and both at home during the final days of his illness and for his funeral; three daughters, Mrs. Harold Thornton of Little Rock, Ark., Mrs. M. E. Mercer, Jr., of Saline, La., and Mrs. Eli Harrell, Jr., of Winnfield; two brothers, Enoch Ferrell of Jackson, Tenn., and Frank Ferrell of McComb, Miss.; two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Haynes, Osyka, Miss., and Mrs. Alice White of Merced, Calif., and seven grandchildren. Active pallbearers included John Steen, Charlie Bright, D. L. Durrett, E. L. McGuffee, Joe Mitchell, and Dan Page. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Crippen, Bob Mills, M. M. Farr, Verge Crippen, Judge Cas Moss, A. L. Smith, Houston Smith, Burton Williams, John T. DeLoach, Clyde DeLoach, Ovey Trahan, and Leo Sowers.
