He was a former police jury member from 1932 to 1936 and a member of Atlanta Methodist Church of which he served as chairman of the Board of Stewards. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carrie P. Ferguson of Atlanta; four sons, L. O. Ferguson of Pineville, Lelan Ferguson, Prentis Ferguson, Maurie Ferguson, all of Atlanta; three daughters, Mrs. Vara Smith and Mrs. Sybil Vail, both of Atlanta, and Mrs. Velma Lang of Shreveport; one brother, C. C. Ferguson of Atlanta; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Neal of Atlanta; 25 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Atlanta United Methodist Church with the Rev. M. C. Cady and Rev. Oliver Thomas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern, Winnfield. Pallbearers included Johnny Broussard, Leroy Vail, Ricky Ferguson, mervin Ferguson, Byron Lang, Veral Ferguson, and Rodger Smith, all grandsons of the deceased.
