Finney Funeral services for George W. Finney were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 1995 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Winnfield. Officiating were Bishop Loy Gaar, Bro. Lester Connor, and Bro. Beverley Taylor. Burial followed in the Winnfield City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield. Mr. Finney, age 88 of Winnfield, died at 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 1995, in the Winn Parish Medical Center. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was retired from the Winn Parish school system as custodian of Westside Elementary School, and was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for building the world's largest bird house. Survivors are one son, John Finney of Sherwood, Arkansas; three daughters, Edna Jean Strickland of Winnfield, La., Betty Louise Ray of Minden, La., and Patsy Ray of Sibley, La.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
