J. Peters, the former Dorothy Finlay, and bride of one week of Captain B. J. Peters of the Ansley, La., C. C. C. Camp, died at about 10 a.m. Tuesday morning from a self- inflicted bullet wound at the home of her mother, Mrs. P. C. Finlay. In the house at the time were only the husband and Mrs. Peters' 12 year old brother, with whom she had been talking but a few minutes before the tragedy. According to the information given to Deputy Coroner S. C. Fittz, neither of the two present were able to assign any reason for a suicide, alleging that the woman had said nothing of her intention to take her life. According to Captain Peters, after hearing the shot he rushed into the room in which Mrs. Peters had been alone for a few minutes, and found her lying on the floor with a bullet wound in the left breast. A revolver was found lying nearby, as if it had fallen from her hand. The bullet passed completely through her body and probably penetrated her heart. The front of her dress showed powder burns, evidence that the mouth of the gun was very close when the shot was fired. As no one was actually an eyewitness it was not definitely known whether it was a suicide or accident. The deceased, who was 20 years of age, was buried Wednesday morning at the Melton Cemetery, with Rev. B. C. Land, pastor First Baptist Church, in charge of the services. He was assisted by Rev. Joe Canzoneri. Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Finlay, one brother, Jimmie, and the husband.
