1 Negro Killed and 1 Wounded In Brawl Early Sunday A. M.

Sonny Boyd Nash, negro, shot and killed another negro by the name of Irving
Franklin and wounded still another, Oscar Portee of Hodge, Sunday morning
about two thirty in the rooming house of George Thomas in the T. & G.
quarters. Officers were summoned and evidence indicated that a dispute between
Nash and Franklin arose over a gambling game of somekind in which they had
been engaged.

Dr. Fittz, the coroner, ordered Franklin buried and Nash was placed in the
parish jail awaiting further investigation.
