Mason was stricken with a paralytic stroke Friday evening at the home of his employer, W. E. Heard, after he had fed and watered the mule he drove in making his deliveries. In honor of Mason, the People's Hardware closed Thursday and his employer and Mrs. Heard attended his funeral services which were held at the Morning Star Baptist Church, of which Mason was a member. Interment was made in the Winnfield Colored Cemetery. Mason had many white friends in Winnfield because he was honest and dependable. His employer trusted him and for this reason kept the mule and wagon delivery for Mason, as he never learned to drive a truck. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Virgil, who is in the Army; Woodrow Wilson, who is employed by the Winnfield Colored Burial Association, and Mason, Jr., of El Dorado.
