Ferguson Dies Suddenly At His Atlanta Home Funeral Services to Be Held This Morning at 10:30 O'Clock James Monroe Ferguson, one of the oldest citizens of Winn Parish, died suddenly at his home at Atlanta, Thursday morning following a paralytic stroke earlier in the night. Mr. Ferguson had been suffering from heart attacks for some time but his death came unexpectedly at this time. Mr. Ferguson was born at Quincy, Florida, November 7, 1848 and moved to Atlanta community when he was twenty years old. He was engaged in farming and later the mercantile business. He was married to Miss Rebecca Greenn fifty- seven years ago and to them eight children were born, six of whom survive him. A member of the M. E. Church South, Mr. Ferguson was active both in church and civic circles of his community. Out of respect to him and in memory of his efforts in behalf of education in his community the Atlanta school was closed all day Thursday. Funeral services will be held this morning at 10:30 at the Atlanta Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Dan Barr of Oak Grove, a friend of long standing, who was also the first pastor of the Atlanta church of which Mr. Ferguson was a charter member. The surviving relatives are his widow, four sons, C. H. Ferguson, who has been postmaster at Atlanta for thirty-six years, J. L. Ferguson, Winnfield, E. G. Ferguson, police juror from Ward 6, and C. C. Ferguson, two daughters, Mrs. M. F. Collier and Mrs. J. M. Neal, both of Atlanta, and a number of grand and great grandchildren.
