THE WINNFIELD-NEWS AMERICAN Friday, February 4, 1938 Short Illness Is Fatal to Herbert Ferguson, Age 17 Funeral Services Sunday At Home of Mrs. C. M. Swanson Herbert J. Ferguson, Jr., age 17, known to his wide circle of friends as "Buddy" Ferguson, died Saturday morning about four o'clock following an illness of only a few days, His health had been somewhat impaired for the past few months but was not considered critical until he was taken to his bed the early part of last week. Herbert was born in Winnfield, the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Ferguson. His mother before her marriage was Miss Ruby Little, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. N. J. Little, member of one of Winn [p]arish's oldest and highly esteemed families. He is also the nephew of Mrs. C. M. Swanson, with whom he was making his home at the time of his death. He was employed at the New Winnfield Drug Company. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at the home of Mrs. C. M. Swanson, conducted by Dr. B. C. Land, pastor of the First Baptist church, Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian church and Rev. G.A. Morgan, pastor of the FIrst Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Winnfield cemetery, under the direction of R.S. Walsh, local funeral director. Surviving him are his father, H. J. Ferguson of Alexandria, two sisters, Mrs. Hervey Ganey, Baton Rouge and Miss Marjorie Ferguson and aunt, Mr. C. M. Swanson, Winnfield. Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the last rites were: Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Ferguson of Alexandria, Mrs. Ella Machen, Oma Machen, and daughter, Martha Jane, Mrs. Olin Machen of Springhill, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Clouin, Pineville, Mrs. O. L. Welch, LeCompte, Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Brumfield, Jonesboro and Dr. Dewitt Milan of Monroe.
