Gaar, 71, Dies From Heart Attack Monday Former Representative Stricken Suddenly In Local Barber Shop James W. Gaar, 71, of Gaar's Mill, prominent Winn Parish resident and former state representative, died Monday at the home of his son Willie Gaar from a heart attack and paralytic stroke. He was stricken late Monday afternoon while in a local barber shop and was taken to the home of his son where he died at 8:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements have not been completed but burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery near Gaar's Mill. Mr. Gaar was born and reared in Winn Parish and lived all his life at Gaar's Mill, a community founded by his father when he established a sawmill there. He served Winn Parish as representative from 1926-30. At the time of his death Mr. Gaar was engaged in farming and also operated a gin and a mercantile business. He is survived by his wife; five sons, S. H. Gaar of Oakland, Calif. Willie Gaar of Winnfield, Roy and Edwin Gaar of Gaar's Mill, and Shelby Gaar of the U. S. Army stationed in Tennessee; two daughters, Mrs. Florene Gaar of Gaar's Mill and Mrs. John Amberg of Georgetown; and eight grandchildren.
