Mrs. Fannie Gaar, Pioneer Resident, Is Buried Sunday

Funeral services were held Sunday for Mrs. Fannie Walker Gaar, 81, who died
Saturday at 2 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Howard Kelley, in
Winnfield.

Services sere at 3 p.m. Sunday at the New Hope Methodist Church, with Rev. L.
G. Shaw, Rev. Luther L. Booth, and Rev. Taylor officiating.  Burial was in
the New Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Gaar was the widow of the late J. M. Gaar, a pioneer settler of this
parish.  Mr. Gaar was a former Winn Parish Representative, planter, merchant,
and cotton gin owner.  She was born in September, 1876, in Winn Parish,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Walker of Dodson, and was married to
Mr. Gaar in 1896.  To this union were born eight children, one of whom died in
infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Annie Mae Amberg of Georgetown who preceded her
in death.

She had made her home in Winnfield with her daughter for a number of years and
was a member of the First Methodist Church here.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Howard Kelley of Winnfield; five sons,
Sylvester H. Gaar of Dodson, Shelby and Willie Gaar of Winnfield, and Edwin
and Roy Gaar of Gaars Mill; two sisters, Mrs. C. C. Lee of Monroe and
Mrs. J. A. Kelly of Gaars Mill; two brothers, J. B. Walker and J. H. Walker,
both of Dodson; 16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Pallbearers, all grandsons, were Paul Vayne Gaar, Earl Gaar, Jack Gaar, Robert
Gaar, James Conrad Amberg, and Stanley Ferguson.
