J. M. Gaar, Former Dodson Marshal, To Be Buried Friday

J. M. Gaar, 83, former marshal of the Village of Dodson, died at 11 p.m.
Wednesday in the Jackson Parish Hospital.  He had been in failing health for a
number of years and did not seek re-election as marshal, a position he had
held since 1914, in the last election because of ill health.

Mr. Gaar was a member of the Dodson Methodist Church and served as chairman of
the Board of Stewards and the Board of Trustees.  He had also served his
community as constable for 45 years during his lifetime.  He was born at Gaars
Mill, the son of the late John O. Gaar and Amelia Hatten, pioneers of this
parish.

The body will lie in state at Edmonds Funeral Home, Jonesboro, until 9 a.m.
Friday, when it will be taken to the Dodson Methodist Church.  Funeral
services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, with the pastor, the Rev. J. C.
Rousseaux, the Rev. Roy Grant of Ringgold, and the Rev. B. W. Waltman of
Overton, Texas, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Transport Cemetery
under direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Adrienne Gaar, of Dodson; two sons, M. W. and D.
C. Gaar, both of Alexandria; one daughter, Mrs. Camille Wall, of Alexandria;
three brothers, Russ, Charlie, and Dennis Gaar, all of Dodson; three sisters,
Mrs. A. I. Talton, Winnfield, Mrs. Alma Dillon, Shreveport, and Mrs. Ross
Kelly, Pineville; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
