M. D. Gaar Dies At His Home In Hudson Saturday Public Benefactor Is Laid to Rest In New Hope Cemetery Sunday William Michael Davie Gaar, 69, public spirited citizen of the Hudson community, died Saturday November 5, at 6:45 a. m. Funeral services were held at the New Hope cemetery at 10 o'clock Sunday morning, the Rev. J. A. Pruett of the Nazerene Church, Jonesboro, conducting the last rites. Mr. Gaar's death was not unexpected, he having been in failing health for the past five years. Mr. Gaar is best known to the people of Winn Parish and especially of his community as a public benefactor. He donated the site for the public school at Hudson and was one of the founders of the Hudson Campgrounds. He also established the Hudson Training School in 1906 which ran through 1911, serving as its president during that time. He believed in real estate as an investment and at one time was one of the largest land owners of the parish. He was a saw mill operator and merchant for many years, and as long as he was occupied in saw mill operations, he provided employment for a large number of people. Besides his other activities, he was postmaster at Hudson as long as there was a post office there, about 25 years. Mr. Gaar was a member of the Nazarene Church. He was for many years a circuit rider of the old M. P. Church, and served as president of the State M. P. Conference. He gave up his active ministry about 1907, but served from 1919 to 1921 as District Superintendent of the Nazarene Churches of the state. He was married in 1886 to Josephine Jones. His wife survives him. He is also survived by three children, G. C. Gaar, Natchitoches, W. H. Gaar, Fort Necessity, and Mrs. Rose Goolsby, Hudson; two brothers, Rev. J. E. Gaar, Des Moines, Iowa, and Rev. J. R. Gaar, Sparrows Point, Md.; one sister, Mrs. Arah Gaar Jamison, Chillicothe, Tex., and nine grandchildren.
