Garris, 74 year old retired detective for the Shreveport police, died at about 2 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 1971, at his home in Shreveport after a sudden illness. Mr. Garriss, 339 Ockley Drive, retired as chief of detectives from the police force about 18 years ago. He was a member of the force for 25 years. A native of Winn Parish, Mr. Garriss was a member of the Broadmoor Methodist Church and was a member of the El Karubah Shrine. He was also a member of Caddo Lodge No. 179, F. & A. M. Funeral services were conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Rose-Neath Funeral Home with Dr. John Kilpatrick, pastor of Broadmoor Methodist Church and Dr. Leonard Cooke of Centenary College presiding. Interment was in Forest Park Cemetery. Survivors include the widow, a daughter, Mrs. George L. Lewis of Houston, Texas; two brothers, B. C. Garriss of Minden and A. E. Garriss of Winnfield; a sister, Mrs. H. A. Porter of Winnfield; and two grandchildren.
