O. Garriss Held Friday, August 18 Columbus Oscar Garriss, 94, of Winnfield, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 1967, in a Columbia, La., hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Wilmingon, North Carolina, having settle in Ward 9 in 1902, and moved to Winnfield in 1915 where he resided at 1109 East Oak Street. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield. Mr. Garriss, a retired Deputy Sheriff, carpenter, and forestry worker, was a member of the Eastern Star Masonic Lodge No. 151, F. & A. M. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in Hixson Brothers Chapel with the Rev. C. C. Martin officiating. Masonic graveside services followed in the Winnfield Cemetery. Survivors are three sons, Arnet Garriss of Winnfield, B. C. Garriss of Minden, C. C. Garriss of Shreveport; one daughter, Mrs. Ila Annie Porter of Winnfield; nine grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers were Howard A. Porter, Jr., Gene W. Porter, C. C. Garriss, John Herd, Terry Garriss, B. C. Garriss, Jr.
