A native of Winn Parish, he was a resident of Rt. 3, Winnfield. He was a retired merchant and operated Sam's Fishing Service on Hwy. 84 west of Winnfield. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Kathryn Leary Gardner of Winnfield; a son, Donald O. Gardner of Natchitoches; two brothers, Frank Gardner of Benton, Overton Gardner of Natchitoches; three sisters, Mrs. Eunice Brian of Montgomery, Mrs. Jennnie Barnett of Bossier City, and Mrs. Myrt Smith of Maringouin; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Maurice Methodist Church with Revs. Roy L. Moore and J. R. Hearron officiating. Burial was in St. Maurice Cemetery.
