Gaar Succumbs To Heart Attack Suffered Monday J. W. Gaar, 71, a lifetime resident of Winn Parish and former state representative, died at a Winnfield clinic Monday night at 8:30 o'clock. He suffered a heart attack and paralytic stroke late Monday afternoon while in a local barber shop. Funeral arrangements had not been completed Thursday morning as the family is awaiting on the arrival of a son, S. H. Gaar, from Oakland, Calif., but burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery near Gaar's Mill, Mr. Gaar's home. Mr. Gaar was born and reared in Winn Parish. He resided his entire life at Gaar's Mill, a community which grew from a sawmill his father established in the early part of the nineteenth century. He served Winn Parish as representative during 1926-30. At the time of his death he was engaged in farming, the ginning and mercantile business. He is survived by his wife; five sons, S. H. Gaar of Oakland, Calif., Willie Gaar of Winnfield, Roy and Edwin of Gaar's Mill, and Shelby Gaar of the U. S. Army, stationed in Tennessee; two daughters, Mrs. John Amberg of Georgetown and Miss Florene Gaar of Gaar's Mill; three brothers, W. M. Gaar of Tyler, Texas, Marshall Gaar of Minden, Barton Gaar of Gaar's Mill; four sisters, Mrs. J. B. Payne and Miss Zella Gaar of Dodson; Mrs. W. Stovall of Shreveport, and Mrs. Maggie Sanders of Ruston; and eight grandchildren. 10-14-43 Last Rites Are Held For J. W. Gaar At New Hope Funeral services for J. W. Gaar, 70, who died Monday night, Oct. 4, were held Sunday at 3:00 o'clock at the New Hope Methodist Church with Rev. Roy Grant officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Patton, Rev. Hysell, and Rev. Hearne. Surviving the deceased are his widow; five sons, Sylvester of Oakland, Calif., Willie, of Winnfield, Shelby, of the U. S. Army, Roy and Edwin of Gaar's Mill; and two daughters, Mrs. John Amberg of Georgetown, La., and Florena Gaar of Gaars Mill, and nine grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Edwin Prince, Stanley McCoy, Alson Jeter, Woodrow Dark, W. W. Winstead, and his grandsons, Earl, Paul Vayne, and Jack Gaar. Honorary pallbearers were Sam Ivy, Guy Depriest, R. W. Crain, W. L. Dark, J. W. Faith, J. R. Sikes, Judge Cas Moss, J. E. Dark, T. C. Sally, T. C. Crew, P. T. Dark, C. C. O'Neil, C. F. Walsworth, O. A. Burch, A. L. Elliott, R. W. Farrar, J. F. Faith, O. M. Grisham, Morgan Stovall, J. J. Lee, and George Wallace.
