B. Garlington, Grant Educator, Dies August 24 H. B. Garlington, Dry Prong High School principal for 20 years, who only three weeks ago was named supervisor of child welfare and attendance in Grant Parish schools, died suddenly at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 1972 near his home in Dry Prong. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Hixson Brothers with Rev. John Kellogg officiating. Burial was in Springhill Cemetery. Garlington, 62, was reportedly working his cattle when he died. He had stepped down from his job as high school principal at Dry Prong and at the Aug. 3 meeting of the Grant Parish School Board was named supervisor to replace Mrs. Dorothy Coleman who had retired from the visiting teaching program. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Bentley and Anchor Masonic Lodge No. 261, F. & A. M., in Pollock. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Peters Garlington of Dry Prong; two sons, Jimmy Garlington and David Garlington, both of Dry Prong; five brothers, B. L. Garlington of Fort Worth, Tex., J. W. Garlington of El Dorado, Ark., D. L. Garlington of Loving, Tex., I. M. Garlington of Pollock, and J. E. Garlington of Clinton, N. C.; a sister, Mrs. Ollie Sanson of Jonesville; and a grandson.
