Garner, 54 years, instantly killed Friday morning between La Howard and Williams (?), about 30 miles south of Shreveport, by a Texas and Pacific passenger train, were held at Calvin Sunday afternoon. The Rev. John Kitchingham of Columbia, had charge of the services, assisted by the Rev. Shows, pastor of the Calvin Baptist Church. Garner, carrying a cotton sack, stepped from the door of his home to the railroad track a few feet away. Officials reported that despite the fact the locomotive whistle was blown, Garner seemed rooted to the tracks and did not move. His body (was) badly mangled. He is survived by his father, John Charles Garner, of Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. G. P. Long, Winnfield, and Mrs. John Jones, Westdale; and one brother, Rich Garner of Crowville.
