E. Gassiott Held Here March 2 Funeral services for Mrs. J. E. Gassiott, 62, who died Sunday in a Monroe hospital following a lengthy illness, were held Tuesday afternoon, March 2, 1965, in the First Baptist Church, Winnfield, with the pastor, Dr. W. L. Holcomb, and the Rev. W. R. Gage, Presbyterian minister, officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were J. R. Harrison, J. W. Kennedy, Jr., James L. Thomas, Earl Applewhite, Dr. H. T. Parker, and C. C. Carter. A native of Winn Parish, Mrs. Gassiott spent her early years in Winnsboro,, La., returning to Winnfield as a young lady. Prominent in civic and church circles, she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Palestine Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Orphanage Circle. Survivors include her husband, J. E. Gassiott, Winnfield; one son, Captain Bobby Gassiott, U. S. Army, Fort Bragg, N. C.; one sister, Mrs. H. A. Sistrunk of Kress, Texas; one brother, C. I. Sandiford, Bastrop; and three grandchildren.
