Gates Funeral services were held at Mars Hill Baptist Church Monday afternoon for Mrs. Amanda Fletcher Gates, 82, who died Sunday at 2:30 a.m. at her daughter's home in Baton Rouge. Graveside services at the Mars Hill Cemetery were conducted by Dr. W. L. Holcomb, pastor of the Winnfield First Baptist Church, and Rev. Jimmy Payne, pastor of the Hargis Baptist Church. Burial was under direction of Welch Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, and Edmonds Funeral Home, Jonesboro. Mrs. Gates was a native of Grant Parish, near Verda. She lived for a number of years in Winnfield and is a former member of the local First Baptist Church and of the Order of the Eastern Star, Palestine Chapter No. 151. At the time of her death she was a member of the Southside Baptist Church, Baton Rouge. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Campbell, four sons, Frank Killingsworth, and Perry Killingsworth, all of Baton Rouge, R. D. Killingsworth of Fort Worth, Texas, and Iley R. Killingsworth of Liberty, Texas; one brother, Rube Fletcher of LeCompte; 16 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several stepchildren, including two stepdaughters, Mrs. R. L. Fluitt and Mrs. Guy McElroy of Winnfield. Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews of the deceased.
