Gates, 42, a veteran of the World War and serving in the Winnfield Post Office until his death Sunday, were held at the First Baptist Church Monday afternoon. The deceased had bee in failing health for the past several months, and died at the Veterans Hospital at Alexandria, where he had gone for treatment for trouble caused when he saw service overseas. Rev. H. H. McBride, Baptist pastor, assisted by Rev. G. A. Morgan, Methodist, and Rev. Alwin Stokes, Presbyterian, ministers, conducted the final services. After church services the body was interred in the Winnfield Cemetery. Survivors of the deceased are his wife and son, Carol, father, Rev. C. B. Gates of Monroe, three brothers, R. W. Gates of Dodson, Reggie and Houston Gates of Winnfield, and three sisters, Mrs. E. L. Taylor of Sikes, Mrs. J. C. Green, Monroe, and Mrs. Horace Pepper of Sikes. Pallbearers were fellow post office employees, P. Hugh Mercer, S. E. Jenkins, D. F. Shell, Henry Harlan, Leo Sowers, and Eck H. Bozeman.
