W. Gates, 64, of Farmerville, died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, 1971 in Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston after a long illness. A Union Parish resident for 43 years, he was a retired cattleman and merchant and a native of Sikes. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Farmerville United Methodist Church where he was a member, with Rev. Leon Scott officiating. Burial was in Farmerville Cemetery. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Xriffe Tettleton Gates of Farmerville; a son, Dr. Donald W. Gates of Auburn, Ala.; his mother, Mrs. W. A. Gates of Shreveport; a brother, R. F. Gates, Sr., of Shreveport; two sisters, Mrs. Zelma Carson of West Monroe and Mrs. Eva Roberts of Shreveport; and two grandchildren.
