R. Gates Dies Funeral services for Huey Lee Gates, 38, of 321 Apricot in LaMarque, Texas, were held at 3 p.m. Friday in the James Crowder Funeral Home. A longshoreman with the I. L. A., and a member of the Highlands Baptist Church, the veteran of World War II and the Korean War, passed away at Galveston County Memorial Hospital April 11th at 12:25 a.m. Surviving is his wife, Alice; four sons, Glenn, Robert, Kenneth, and Tommy Gates, all of LaMarque; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Gates of Joyce, La.; five sisters, Gladys Lowery of Joyce, La., Alma Sandifer, Winnfield, La., Essie Boles, Winnfield, La., Vada Spangler, Joyce, La., and Zella Hancock of Monroe, La.; two brothers, Edward Gates, Monroe, La., and Hershel Gates, Bakersfield, Calif. Mr. Gates was active with the Little League Baseball teams in LaMarque, serving as assistant manager. The Rev. J. D. Helm, Highland Baptist Church, officiated. Pallbearers were E. Dixon, J. K. Flores, M. Walker, A. C. Nutt, Bill Nutt, Robert Galloway, and John Rainey. Burial was in Hitchcock's Galveston Memorial Park.
