Gates James E. Gates, 43, a Goldonna farmer, died at 8:53 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 1967 in the Veterans Hospital in Shreveport after a long illness. He was a native of Sikes and was a member of the Goldonna Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Goldonna Baptist Church with Rev. Douglas Burnely officiating, assisted by Rev. O. M. Greer. Burial was in Goldonna Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Gates is survived by his wife, Maxine Gates; three sons, Jimmy Joe, Jack, and Frank Gates, all of Goldonna; a daughter, Myrtle Lee Gates of Goldonna; five brothers, Lee Elton Gates of Mobile, Ala., Thomas R. Gates of Ruston, Roy L. Gates of Corpus Christi, Tex., Huey Gates of Jonesboro, and Jerry Gates of Hodge; ___ sisters, Evalean G. Thompson of Bastrop, Rose Marie G. Bickers of Houston, Texas; his mother, Mrs. Lettie Gates of Winnfield; and his father, C. F. Gates of Placerville, Calif.
