Funeral Rites For J. J. Gates Held Sunday

James Jackson Gates, 84, of Sikes, died Friday, December 8, 1972, at his
residence in Sikes after a short illness.  He was a native of Winn Parish and
a retired farmer.

Survivors include a son, James E. Gates of Monroe; three daughters, Mrs.
Rowlena E. Parker of Sikes, Mrs. Maude Godwin of Houston, Texas, and
Mrs. Novella Garrett of Longview, Texas; two brothers, Walter Gates of Dodson
and Ira Gates of Sikes; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Friendship Baptist Church with
Revs. Willie James and Arlie Bratton officiating.  Burial was in the church
cemetery under direction of Southern of Winnfield.
