Gwin Turner of Vicksburg, Miss., officiating, assisted by C. C. Martin. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mr. Gates, manager of the A & P Meat Market of Vicksburg, Miss., died Saturday, January 21, 1967 in a Vicksburg hospital after a short illness. He was a native of Winn Parish and a member of the Bowmar Ave. Baptist Church in Vicksburg. Survivors are his widow, the former Dorothy Lynn Sullivan; a son, Roger Keith Gates of Vicksburg; a daughter, Jo Lynn Gates of Vicksburg; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grayson Gates of Winnfield; a sister, Mrs. Judy Ford of Elizabeth City, N. C.; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Gates of Sikes. Pallbearers were Sam Holland, Gary Wayne Kyson, of New Orlenas, Arnold Jordan, Jr., Billy Poisso, Jim Spikes, E. L. Wiley, Alexandria, Jimmy Beech, Vicksburg, Miss., and Tommy Jeffers, Vicksburg. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Southern Trailers Distributors, Inc., of Vicksburg, employees of A & P Food Stores, Vicksburg, Miss., and employees of Illinois Central Railroad.
