Obituaries: Hershel Gates

Hershel S. Gates, 63, of Winnfield died Thursday, January 12, 1978 in a Ruston
hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel, with
Rev. J. L. Holt officiating. Burial was in the Sikes Cemetery under the
direction of the Southern Funeral Home.

Mr. Gates is survived by two sons, Bobby Gates and Edwin Gates, both of
Lafayette; one daughter, Dorothy Jean Collins of Atlanta; one brother, Edward
Gates of Monroe, five sisters, Zella Hancock of Monroe, Essie Boles, Vada
Spangler and Gladys Lowery all of Joyce; Alma Sandifer of Winnfield; and seven
grandchildren.
