Mrs. J. J. Gates Buried Monday At Friendship

Samantha Rosa Gates, 75, died Sunday, September 3, 1967 in a local hospital
after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Friendship Baptist Church
with Rev. Willie Broadway officiating.  Interment was in the church cemetery
under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Survivors include her husband, J. J. Gates of Sikes; one son, James E. Gates
of Monroe; three daughters, Mrs. M. J. Parker of Sikes, Mrs. Charles Godwin
of Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Roland Garrett, Longview, Texas; six sisters, Mrs.
Mary Gates, Mrs. Ruby Dulaney of Sikes, Mrs. Bessie Hinton of West Monroe,
Mrs. Lessie Andrews of Bastrop, Mrs. Vera Kelly of Monroe, and Mrs. Alvena
Chitty of Gonzales; twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Godwin, Gary Garrett, Raymond Parker, James Parker,
Clarence Batty, and Wallace Murphy.
