All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 30, 1950 Winn Parish Enterprise or Winnfield News-American Funeral Services For Mrs. Gentry Held at Sikes Funeral services for Mrs. Allie Thornton Gentry, 48, a lifelong resident of Sikes, were held at the Sikes Baptist Church at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 24, with the Rev. A. D. Murray officiating. Interment was in Sikes Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mrs. Gentry died in a Monroe clinic Friday morning as the result of a blood clot which formed following an operation Monday of last week. Mrs. Gentry was born and reared in Sikes. Her husband, Joseph Iley Gentry was killed in a sawmill accident at Sikes in August, 1942. She was a member of Sikes Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, J. I. Gentry of Westlake and Jim Gentry of West Monroe; four daughters, Mrs. Hazel Dortch and Mrs. Margery Parker of Columbia, Mrs. Carl Underwood of West Monroe, and Mrs. Laverne Runyon of Westlake; three brothers, J. D. Thornton of Sikes, H. M. Thornton of West Monroe, and J. R. Thornton of Eros; three sisters, Mrs. H. R. Thompson of Sulphur, Mrs. Whitt Usery of Baskin, and Mrs. Marie Branch of Sikes. Pallbearers were her nephews, Cleo Thompson, W. R. Thompson, Donald Thornton, Loyd Willis, Reginald Thornton, and Lavelle Gentry.
