All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 27, 1947 Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites Held For Jeff Gentry Sunday, June 22 Funeral services for Jefferson Davis Gentry, 36, of near Winnfield, were held at the Corinth Baptist Church Sunday afternoon with Rev. Alwin Stokes and Rev. J. H. Cockerham in charge. Burial was in Old Corinth graveyard under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Leamon Sullivan, Wade Moore, D. G. Boyett, Walter Goins, Glen Dawson, and J. C. Harper. Mr. Gentry was killed accidentally Saturday morning by a shot from a gun which he had gone after to kill rabbits which had been eating vegetables in the Gentry garden. The shot pierced the lower portion of his heart and death was instant, it was reported. Born Feb. 15, 1911, Mr. Gentry had lived his entire life in Winn Parish, having farmed with his parents at their home several miles south of Winnfield. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Gentry, he is survived by one sister, Miss Fannie Gentry, Baton Rouge; and one brother, Elgie Gentry, Kirkland, Wash., and a host of relatives and friends.
