All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: September 4, 1947 Winn Parish Enteprise Iley Gentry, 52, Accident Victim, Succumbed Aug. 29 Iley Gentry, 52, of Sikes, injured last Thursday when a 2 x 4 plank hit him in the lower abdomen, as the plank was returned through the edger at the Stanley Smith sawmill, Sikes, died Friday at 5:05 a.m., following an emergency operation performed at the Baptist Hospital, Alexandria. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Sikes Baptist Church with Rev. Homer Coleman and Congressman A. Leonard Allen in charge. Burial was in the Sikes Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. A lifetime resident of Sikes, Mr. Gentry was well known throughout Winn Parish. He joined the Sikes Baptist Church 20 years ago and was a faithful member during that time. In May 1945 he was employed at the sawmill where he was injured. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Allie Thornton Gentry, Sikes; two sons, Iley Gentry, Jr., Lake Charles, and Jim Gentry, U. S. Army Service Co., Frankfort, Germany; four daughters, Mrs. S. C. Dortch of Columbia, Mrs. Roy Dunyon of Jonesboro, Mrs. Travis Parker of Grayson, and Mrs. Carl Underwood of Grayson; two brothers, H. L. Gentry of Sikes and Sam Gentry of West Monroe; two sisters, Mrs. O. O. Willis of Sikes and Mrs. Wesley McCarty of West Monroe.
