R. Gibbs Sunday Afternoon J. R. Gibbs, 64, of West Monroe, former alderman of that city and former mayor of Winnfield, died at a Monroe hospital early last Saturday morning. The funeral was held at the residence Sunday at 3 p.m. with Rev. C. K. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist Church of West Monroe, officiating, assisted by Rev. E. E. Huntsberry, pastor of the First Baptist Church of West Monroe. Interment was in the Hasley Cemetery. Among the pallbearers were Otto Drewett, former Winnfield resident, and W. U. Drewett, of Winnfield. Mr. Gibbs had made his home in West Monroe since 1926, moving there from Winnfield where for many years he was manager of a large oil company. For three terms he served as mayor of Winnfield. He was also state fire marshal at one time and also served an unexpired term as alderman of West Monroe. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. J. Atwood Taylor, and a son, Charles B. Gibbs, both residing in Bradenton, Fla.
