All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Final Rites For Mrs. Betty Gilbert Here Saturday Final rites for Mrs. Betty Durham Gilbert, 79, native of Winn and resident of Monroe, who died suddenly at 3 a.m. Wednesday, will be conducted at the First Baptist Church, Winnfield, at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 15. Officiating will be the Rev. A. H. Cullen of Monroe, formerly of Winnfield, and Dr. W. L. Holcomb, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the family plot in Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers. Mrs. Gilbert passed away in Dearborn, Mo., while on a visit with her sister in law, Mrs. Silas Durham. The remains will arrive here Friday and will be at Hixson Funeral Home until time for last rites. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of one of Winn's oldest and most prominent families. She was the daughter of the late Jim and "Aunt Litha" Durham. For many years she has been residing in El Dorado, Ark., and more recently at Monroe. Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Nelwyn Holyfield, Monroe, and Mrs. Velva Sullins of Webster Grove, Mo.; one son, C. J. Gilbert, Baton Rouge; one brother, J. P. Durham, Shreveport; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Latham, Mansfield, and Mrs. Lula Bond, Atlanta, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
