All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 21, 1941 Winn Parish Enterprise Garfield Gimber Succumbs in Minden Tuesday Funeral Services Are Held Here Thursday Afternoon Funeral services for Garfield Gimber, Sr., age 60, who died Tuesday night in Minden, were held Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the family residence in Winnfield. Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiated. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery with the Masonic rites at the grave. Pallbearers were members of the Masonic Lodge of which Mr. Gimber was a 32nd degree member. Mr. Gimber was born March 4, 1881 in Newport, Ark., where he was reared and educated. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Gimber. Mr. Gimber was named for President Garfield because he was born on the day that he took the oath as President of the United States. Mr. Gimber married Miss Inez Lawley in 1904 in Winnfield and they have resided here most of the time since then. Connected with the L. & A., for the past 30 years, he was an engineer at the time of his death, and was a member of the railroad brotherhood. For the past eight months he and his family had resided in Minden. Surviving are his wife, five sons, Garfield, Jr., Honolulu; James Gimber, Hodge; Bill Gimber, Winnfield; Frank Gimber, Philadelphia; and Robert Gimber, Minden; two daughters, Mrs. Percy Roberts, Monroe, and Miss Margaret Gimber, Minden; one nephew, Jack Lampkin, Oklahoma, and nine grandchildren.
