All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: December 29, 1955 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Garfield Gimber Dies Suddenly in California Garfield Gimber, 48, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Gimber, Sr. of Winnfield, died from a heart attack in Spring Valley, Calif., near San Diego, Saturday, Dec. 24, while he was making his rouge as a mail carrier. He had retired about a year ago from the U. S. Navy. The deceased's sister, Mrs. Percy Roberts of Winnfield, left Tuesday for Spring Valley to attend the funeral services which are scheduled to be held in California Friday. Mrs. Roberts was accompanied by her daughters, Mrs. Ray Chandler and Mrs. C. C. Carter and Mr. Carter. A graduate of the Winnfield High School, and remembered by many as one of Winnfield's earlier football stars, Gimber joined the Navy a few years after graduation. He married a girl from Connecticut, and they resided at various places, including Hawaii and later California, which they made their permanent home for the past eight years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Gimber; three sons, Garfield, Jr., Charles and Richard, all of Spring Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Roberts of Winnfield and Mrs. Margaret Lauck of Pittman, N. J.; four brothers, Bill Gimber, New Orleans, Jimmy of Jonesboro, La., Robert of Magnolia, Ark., and Frank of the Merchant Marines.
