Benton was stricken with polio two weeks ago, and taken to the polio center in New Orleans Charity Hospital, where he died. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gough of Sikes. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and three sisters, all of Sikes. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Cas Crain of Grayson with the Rev. A. D. Murry of Sikes assisting. Burial was under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Acting as pallbearers were Benton's classmates, T. Ray Gregory, Jimmy Parker, Stanley Vickers, Dudley Crain, Roy Lane Johnson, and Harold Smith. Among those attending the funeral were several of his classmates and teachers, Mr. C. A. Goleman, Mr. J. A. Manning, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Emmons, Mr. and Mrs. Sharon Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Crosby Adams, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Adams.
