W. M. Grice Held At Old Union Funeral services for Rev. W. M. Grice, 78 years, well known throughout Winn Parish as "Uncle Will", were held at Old Union Church on Tuesday, January 13, with the Rev. St. Andrie, Rev. B. G. Dyess, and Rev. J. A. McMurry officiating. Burial was in the Old Union Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. Rev. Grice passed away at his home on the Tullos Highway, Ward Two, after several months illness. He was born in Mississippi August 24, 1869; moved to Louisiana when a child, and spent the rest of his life in Winn Parish. On March 15, 1890 he was married to Sara "Sally" Wright, who survives, with six of their seven children. Sons and daughters surviving are Arthur Grice, Winnfield; Oscar Grice, Slidell, La.; Mrs. James I. Porter, Mrs. Otis Wood, Mrs. W. S. Dunn, all of Winnfield; Mrs. T. P. Ingles, Texas City, Texas. One son, Earl Grice, preceded him in death eight months ago. He also leaves 27 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, one brother, Jesse Grice, of Winnfield; two half sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Atkins and Mrs. J. J. Bedgood, of Winnfield; three half brothers, Bud Grice of Winnfield, William Grice of Georgetown, and J. T. Sanders of Smackover, Ark. Rev. Grice spent 47 years in the ministry of the Gospel, having been ordainded a Baptist minister in August, 1901. He was pastor of the Old Union Church for 14 years and was assistant pastor until his health prevented him from serving. He was known as the "Daddy of the church." Rev. Grice was known among his friends for his many acts of kindness, visiting among the sick and needy, and was loved by all who knew him. Pallbearers were H. K. Porter, Harmon Porter, Bowman Wright, Jimmie Keith, Ralph Frazier, and Lee Dunn.
