All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: March 17, 1950 Winnfield News-American Last Rites For Sam Gregory Conducted At Hebron March 10 Funeral services for Sam Gregory, 70, a resident of near Sikes for many years, were conducted at the Hebron Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Friday, March 10, with the Revs. A. D. Murray and Emmons officiating. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mr. Gregory died in a Winnfield hospital Thursday, March 9, after a long illness. Mr. Gregory, well known throughout Winn Parish, was born in Caldwell Parish on December 13, 1879, and had lived most of his life in the Sikes area. He was employed as a school bus driver at Sikes school. The Sikes school was closed Friday in respect for Mr. Gregory. He is survived by four sons, Bud and Flett Gregory of Sikes, Truman of New Iberia, and Alon Gregory of Joyce; seven daughters, Mrs. Ella Parker, Mrs. Lizer Parker, Mrs. Verma Johnston, Mrs. Emma Parker, Mrs. Ida Head, and Mrs. Hazel Walker, all of Sikes, and Mrs. Laverda Dunn of Baton Rouge; and one sister, Mrs. Emma Coates of Monroe. Also surviving are 35 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
