All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: October 24, 1948 Winn Parish Enterprise Mrs. Sam Gregory Succumbs at Sikes After Long Illness Funeral services for Mrs. Sam Gregory, 69, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ella Parker, October 17, 1948, after a long illness, were held at the Hebron Baptist Church October 18, with the Rev. Lewis Hold, nephew of the deceased, officiating at the last rites. Burial was under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Acting as pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, Ruth, Ted, and Doc Parker, Fay and T. Ray Gregory, and Paul Dunn. A native of Mississippi, Mrs. Gregory had been a resident of the Sikes Community for many years. She was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of Sikes; seven daughters, Mrs. Ella Parker, Mrs. Lizzie Parker, Mrs. Velma Johnson, Mrs. Ida Head, Mrs. Emma Parker, and Mrs. Hazel Walker, all of Sikes, and Mrs. Laura Dunn of Baton Rouge; four sons, Bud, Fleet, and Alon of Sikes, and Truman Gregory of New Iberia; two sisters, Mrs. Mandy Holt and Mrs. Rose Beavers of Sikes; two brothers, Fleet Herring of Sikes and A. Herring of Jena. She also leaves 37 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
