Granddaughter of Mrs. N. C. Sowers Dies in NY

New was received last week of the death of Mrs. Charles Griffe of Staten
Island, New York, who died May 31 following an illness with pneumonia.  Mrs.
Griffe will be remembered in Winnfield as Mary Sowers, the granddaughter of
Mrs. N. C. Sowers of Sikes, who reared her.

Besides her grandmother, Mrs. Griffe is survived by her husband and two
daughters, Patricia and Shirley Ann, of Staten Island, N. Y.; her mother, Mrs.
C. J. Erskins of Sikes; and the following uncles and aunts: John and Howard
Sowers, Winnfield; Mrs. W. C. Abrams of Sikes; and Mrs. B. F. Allbritton of
Curry.

Mrs. Griffe was twenty-eight years of age.  Funeral services were held at
Staten Island, and interment was in a cemetery there.  Relatives here were
unable to make the long trip to attend last rites.
