All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 26, 1928 Winn Parish Enterprise Mrs. Nettie Griggs Mrs. Nettie Griggs, known by her friends and neighbors as Granny Griggs, died at her home on Center Street Monday afternoon. Mrs. Griggs was born in Tupelo, Miss., September 10, 1856. She came to Louisiana when a girl and was married to J. M. Griggs May 3, 1894. They lived in Indian Village Community near Calhoun, La., until 1902 when they came to Winnfield. Mrs. Griggs was a devout Christian becoming a member of the church in her early childhood. She was a member of the M. P. church of Winnfield at the time of her death. She is survived by one adopted daughter, Mrs. Joseph Petoscia, of Winnfield; one stepson, N. L. Griggs of Tremont, and five step-daughters. The body was carried to Calhoun, La., Tuesday morning and interred in the Indian Village Cemetery beside the grave of her husband. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. H. Cullen, pastor Winnfield Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Camp, Methodist minister of Calhoun. The funeral was attended by Mrs. Joseph Petoscia and children, Mrs. J. C. Fitch, Mrs. S. M. Brian, A. H. Cullen, of Winnfield; N. L. Griggs, Tremont; Mrs. Lewis Zeigler, Eros; and a host of friends and relatives from Calhoun and Indian Village.
