All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: July 28, 1949 Winn Parish Enterprise "Aunt" Sallie Guthrie Succumbs In Ward Eight Funeral services for "Aunt" Sallie Guthrie, 84, who died at her home in Ward Eight Wednesday morning after a three week's illness, were held Thursday, July 28, 1949, at 10 a.m., at the Bethlehem Baptist Church near Calvin. The Rev. F. M. York, pastor of the Calvin Baptist Church, and the Rev. Hancock, pastor of Bethlehem, officiated. Born September 10, 1864, in Ward Eight, "Aunt" Sallie spent her entire life in the same community. She was the daughter of John Martin, a native of Alabama and Mary Huey of Lincoln Parish, and was a sister of the late C. M. C. Martin, who was a prominent leader in parish affairs during his lifetime. Aunt Sallie was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Survivors include three nephews and two nieces, John Martin, Lake Charles, Newton Martin, Port Neches, Texas, Mrs. L. T. Vailes, Jr., Leesville, C. M. C. Martin, Fort Worth, Mrs. George A. Chandler, Gilbert.
