M. Gamble of Tullos Are Victims; J. T. Wainwright Escapes A car accident on Christmas Day claimed the lives of two men, Harry Martin (Dolan) Owens, 21, of Curry, and W. M. Gamble, 45, of Tullos. Gamble was killed instantly and Owens died soon after the accident. The car was being driven at a terrific speed according to reports and it struck a bridge over a small creek half way between Tullos and Winnfield. J. T. Wainwright, driver of the car was only slightly hurt. Both of the dead men were occupying seats on the right side of the car. A piece of bridge railing two by six inches was driven through the body of Owens and a portion of Gamble's body and out of the rear end of the car. The Owens youth was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Ownes, well known residents of this parish. Gamble was foreman for the Arkansas Natural Gas Company at Tullos. Funeral services for Gamble were held at Homer, La., on Saturday. Surviving are his widow and several children. Following is an account of the last rites for Owens from our Curry correspondent: Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 o'clock, Dec. 26, for Mr. Harry Martin (Dolan) Owens, 21 years of age, who met with an accident December 25 at about 8 o'clock when the car in which he was riding ran into a banister of a bridge driving a piece of timber through his body causing his death. The accident occurred near Mr. Collins' place on the Winnfield and Tullos Road. The other occupants of the car were Mr. Gamble and Mr. Wainwright of Tullos. Mr. Wainwright escaped injury while Mr. Gamble died instantly. A Mr. McMurray was the first person to the scene of the accident and talked with Mr. Owens before he died. Mr. Owens told him who he was and where he lived. Rev. M. D. Doughty conducted the funeral services assisted by Rev. J. A. McMurry. Mr. Owens is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Owens, three brothers, Mr. Louis Owens, Winnfield, Mr. H. N. Owens and Junior Owens, Tullos, three sisters, Mrs. L. O. Cannon, Port Arthur, Texas, Miss Fannie and Bernice Owens, Tullos, La.
