Barton, 79 years of age, died at his residence here Wednesday, August 15 at 7 p. m. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. D. Sherwood at the Sardis Baptist Church, of which Mr. Barton was a member, at 4 p. m. Thursday, August 16. Mr. Barton is a native of Louisiana and was born on October 27, 1855. Surviving him are his widow and two sons and four daughters as follows: C. B. Barton and E. B. Barton, Winnfield; Mrs. J. S. Collins, Mrs. W. P. Barton of Olla, La., were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Olla First Baptist Church with the Revs. Dale Windham and Glen Wagnon officiating. Burial will be in Harris Chapel Cemetery, Olla, under direction of Riser & Son, Columbia. Barton, 68, of Olla, died at 6:01 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 1989, in Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. He served as chief of police in Olla for 25 years and was a retired LaSalle sheriff's deputy. He also served on the LaSalle Parish Police Jury, and was a member of the Olla Kiwanis Club and Standard Baptist Church. He was the former owner and operator of Cliff's Twin Lake Lodge at Grayson from 1978 to 1985 and operated Cliff's Quick Stop in Olla. Survivors include his wife, Nell Tannehill Barton of Olla; two sons, Jerry Barton of Olla and Clifton D. Barton Held Thursday at 2:30 Erb Benjamin Barton, 72, lifelong resident of the Sardis Community, died at his home Wednesday, Sept. 21, 1949, after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Henry Keys and Rev. F. M. Shows officiating. Burial was in the Old Sardis Cemetery with Rev. Alwin Stokes and Rev. Mitchell and the Masonic organization in charge. Mr. Barton was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church and the local Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Shelton Barton, who he married 52 years ago; six daughters, Mrs. Irene Hughes and Mrs. A. G. Simmons, Shreveport; Mrs. L. E. Donohoe and Mrs. A. C. Mrs. Barton, 89, of Olla, died Thursday, midnight, April 20, 1989, in Humana Hospital, Winnfield, LA. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olla and had been a resident of Olla for many years. She was a native of Winnfield. Mr. Barton was a member of Sardis Baptist Church, a native of Winn parish, and retired from the Louisiana State Highway Department after many years of service. Survivors include his wife, Hattie Barton of Winnfield; one son, Julius H. Barton of Winnfield; one daughter, Margaret Ann Severance of Winnfield; one brother, the Rev. E. B. Barton of Winnfield; four sisters, Ella Mae Russ of Winnfield, Ophella Simmons, Irene E. Hughes, and Johnnie Cathey, all of Shreveport; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Davies Date Submitted: Apr. 1998 From: October 1, 1975 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Olla Youth Killed In Accident Seventeen year old John Oscar Barton of Olla was killed around 1:20 a.m. Sunday when his car sailed through the air and struck a pine tree, according to a LaSalle Parish Sheriff's deputy. The deputy said the one vehicle accident occurred on a road in front of LaSalle Parish High School and that a passenger in the auto, Kevin "Buster" Taylor, 17, also of Olla, escaped serious injury. According to the deputy, Barton lost control of the car in a curve, went off the road and struck a culvert which threw the car off the ground into a pine tree. He said Taylor was thrown from the auto when it first left the road. Taylor was taken to the Hardtner Medical Center at Urania and released later Sunday. A spokesman at the hospital said he was kept for observation purposes. The sheriff's deputy said the Barton auto landed upside down pinning the youth underneath. Funeral services for the Barton youth were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Standard Baptist Church with the Revs. Dale Windham, James Simons, and Aubrey Veuleman officiating. Burial was in Harris Chapel Cemetery near Olla under direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sardis Baptist Church, with Reverend C. W. Jones and Dr. W. L. Holcomb officiating. Burial was in the Brown Cemetery under direction of Hixson Bros. Davies Date Submitted: Apr. 1998 >From the January 3, 1957 Winn Parish Enterprise-News American Oscar Barton 56, Former Winnfield Barber, Succumbs Oscar Barton, 56, native of the Sardis community, Winn Parish, died suddenly Monday morning at his home in Olla following a heart attack. He had been residing in Olla about 10 years, where he had served as city marshal of Olla and as deputy sheriff of LaSalle Parish for the past eight years. Prior to moving to Olla he was a longtime barber of Winnfield, and also served as City Marshall of Winnfield a number of years. He was a member of Eastern Star Masonic Lodge No. 151, Winnfield, and of the Olla Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church of Olla Tuesday afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Cox, officiating. Assisting was the Rev. T. T. Edwards. Acting as pallbearers were LaSalle Parish deputies and state troopers. Burial was in Sardis Cemetery with Masonic rites conducted by the Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 of Winnfield. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Anderson Barton of Olla; one son, Clifton Barton, Olla; two daughters, Mrs. Cliff Stewart, Natchez, Miss.; and Mrs. Shep Tyson, Shreveport: two brothers, E. B. and Frank Barton, both of the Sardis Community; six sisters, Mrs. Irene Hughes, Mrs. Ophelia Simmons, and Mrs. Johnnie Cathey, all of Shreveport; Mrs. Majel Donohoe, Mrs. Ella Mae Russ and Mrs. Ruth Brady, all of Winnfield.
