Burial will follow at the Old Union Cemetery in rural Winn Parish, with graveside services planned for 3:30 p.m. Visitation will be Monday, September 16, 2002, from 6 o 9 p.m. at McGuire Funeral Homes, Vivian, LA. Mr. Collins was born November 11, 1921 in Winn Parish, LA and died on Saturday, September 14, 2002 in Shreveport after a sudden illness. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves, enlisting during WWII, and then attended Northwestern College in Natchitoches, LA, for two years after the war, where he met and married Leta Mildred Munnerlyn in 1948. He soon was hired by an advance surveying team for an oil company and worked all over west Texas during the oil boom. He returned to Louisiana in 1952 and worked for 30 years for UOP in Blanchard, retiring as shift supervisor. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lanier Patton Collins of Winn Parish; his sister, Katherine Collins Moore of Weston, LA; an infant brother; and his granddaughter, Lillianna Collins. Survivors are his 4 children, Leta and husband John Thomas of Hallsville, TX; Janet and husband Carl Pauley of Houston, TX; Debra and husband Michael Spearman of Vivian, LA; and Ronald and wife JoAnn Collins of Bryan, TX; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; his brother Malcolm and wife Earlena Collins of Winnfield, LA; plus many cousins, nieces and nephews. ===== File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Karen Garrett colvin_garrett@bellsouth.net June 3, 2006, 2:10 pm Winnfield News-American March 1, 1929 James Caraway Collins, the six months old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Collins who live on route 2, died on Monday morning at two- thirty o'clock following a short illness. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. C. Wier, pastor of First Methodist Church assisted by Rev. J. A. McMurry and interment was made in the Union Cemetery Monday afternoon. Additional Comments: He is survived by two brothers, Henry Wallace and Malcolm Lincoln, and one sister, Katherine Eugenia. His paternal grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. A.P. Collins of Route 2, Winnfield. Collins, 91, of Winnfield died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 1983 in Humana Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish and a retired farmer. Survivors include his wife, Annie Crain Collins of Winnfield; two sons, Henry W. Collins of Vivian and Malcolm L. Collins of Winnfield; a stepson, Carmen Crain of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Katherine Moore of Jonesboro; three stepdaughters, Yvonne Sutton of Pioneer, Bernadine Hyde of Shreveport, and Glenda June Herrman of Houston, Texas; a halfbrother, Julius H. Beard of Stonewall; a sister, Pearl Montgomery of Bristol, Tennessee; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, in East Winnfield Baptist Church with the Revs. Doyle Wesson, James Simons, and Grayson Watson officiating. W.(Lanier) Collins, 66, a resident of the Tullos Highway, who died unexpectedly at her home Monday night, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 20 at the First Methodist Church with the paster, Rev. R. H. Staples officiating. She has been in ill health several months. Burial was in Old Union cemetery under direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Acting as pallbearers were Joe D. Burns, James G. Russell, W. J. Austin, J. D. Holmes, Dudley Shell, and Rufus Rogers. Mrs. Collins was a native of Lisbon, La., and came to Winn parish as a teacher at the Pleasant Hill School. It was here that she met and married J. W. Collins of that community. She has been active in church and club work, and was a member and Sunday School teacher at the First Methodist Church of Winnfield. She is survived by her husband, J. W. Collins; two sons H. W. Collins of Ida, La. and M. L. Collins of Winnfield; one daughter, Mrs. Louis Moore of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren; a brother, C. E. Patton of Lisbon; three sisters, Mrs. J. T. Robinson, Mrs. Blanche Hensley, and Mrs. W. W. Nickolas of Homer.
