All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: September 27, 1978 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Alvin Hahn Rites Planned Thursday The funeral of Alvin Sol Hahn, a prominent Winnfield businessman and civic leader, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Southern Funeral Home Chapel here with Rev. Calvin Phelps officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Pineville Jewish Cemetery in Pineville with Rabbi Marten I. Hinchin officiating. Mr. Hahn died Saturday, September 26, 1978 at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria after a lengthy illness. He was a past president, member of the board of directors and executive committee of the Louisiana Association of Insurance Agents. He was one of the founders of First Federal Savings & Loan Association of Winnfield and owned the first stock certificate issued by the association. The Alvin Hahn Insurance Agency celebrated its 59th year providing continuous service. The General Finance Company formed in 1927. The two integrated agencies represent the two oldest, proprietorships individually owned businesses in Winn Parish. The General Finance Company is the oldest of all continual financial and banking institutions in Winn Parish. A former native of New Orleans, Mr. Hahn moved to Winnfield in May, 1919, and became a business partner in the Ford automobile business and also simultaneously began his insurance business in 1919 and organizing his finance business, integrating the two. He was past president of the Winnfield Rotary Club, former commander of the American Legion Post in Winnfield and the recipient of numerous plaques and certificates in recognition of his years of service as an insurance agent since 1919. Mr. Hahn and Congressman A. Leonard Allen of Winnfield helped establish the first Winn Parish Library in the early 1930s. He furnished the necessary equipment for the youth ball club in 1925, was a veteran of WW I, was appointed to the draft board by former Gov. Earl K. Long, was later appointed board secretary and served for 25 years. He was a 50 year member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge No. 190 and one of the founders of the Winnfield Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sadye Lipsitz Hahn of Winnfield; two daughters, Abigail Hahn of Winnfield and Suzanne Hahn of Los Angeles, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Sadie Jalenak of New Orleans.
