Hahn Sadye L. Hahn, prominent Louisiana educator, business and civic leader, passed away June 10 at the Winn Parish Medical Center, Winnfield, Louisiana. A former native of Lecompte, La., Mrs. Hahn was the first woman elected to the Winn Parish School Board. She taught multi-disciplines in the Winn Parish school system for 18 years. The Superintendent of Education appointed Mrs. Hahn to served on the Title III and Title IV Advisory Council for the Louisiana State Department of Education. She was honored for eleven years outstanding service. She continued until 1992 managing the family's insurance business, which was organized in 1919. Mrs. Hahn was known as a creative book reviewer for the Reader's Review Club, a charter member of the Pine Ridge Country Club, and organizer for the Winn Parish Mental Health Association. She served as the Louisiana Girls State Winn Parish Coordinator for 35 years for the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Hahn was selected as Woman of the Year in 1973 and elected to the Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame in 1982; the family business of 73 years was recently honored by the Chamber of Commerce on her birthday, saluted for continuous service to the community. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary teachers sorority for 43 years, and a member of the Congregation Comiluth Chassodim in Alexandria, Louisiana. Mrs. Hahn was active in various local church and religious affairs. An ecumenical memorial services was held in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield, Louisiana, Sunday, June 13, at 2 p.m. Officiating was Rev. Calvin Phelps, Rev. Leland McCullough, Rev. Steve Carroway, and Judy Ginsburgh, Cantorial Soloist. Graveside services conducted by Rabbi Arnold Task followed at the Jewish Cemetery, Pineville, La. Survivors include two daughters, Susanna Hahn Astin of Malibu, California, Abigail Hahn of Winnfield, and three grandchildren, Tom, David, and Allen, of California. Pallbearers were Tom, David, and Allen Astin, Kermit M. Simmons, George Moss, and Wallace Voltz. Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Jolly Harper, Norman Smith, George Harrel, and Dickey Heard.
